(e) 192.216.32.47 255.255.255.240

5. Immediately after a router completes its boot sequence, the network administrator wants to check the routers configuration. From privileged EXEC mode, which of the following commands can the administrator use for this purpose? (Choose two.)

(a) Show flash

(b) Show NVRAM

(c) Show startup-config

(d) Show running-config

(e) Show version

6. What are two functions of a router? (Choose two.)

(a) It connects multiple IP networks

(b) It controls the flow of data via the use of Layer 2 addresses

(c) It determines the best path to send packets

(d) It manages the VLAN database

(e) It increases the size of the broadcast domain

7. Explain the basic routing concepts for small enterprise network switches and routers.

8. Outline the following classless routing protocols, including:

a) Enhanced interior gateway routing protocol (EIGRP)

b) Open shortest path first (OSPF)

c) Routing information protocol (RIPv2)

9. Summarise debug commands.

10. Explain internet protocol version 4 (IPv4).

11. Summarise the purpose, and basic operation, of protocols in the open system interconnection (OSI) and transmission control protocol, or internet protocol (TCP/IP), models.

12. Explain the router calling line identification (CLI) configuration.

Assessment Task 2: Practical Tasks

Purpose of the Assessment – This task provides you with the opportunity to demonstrate that you have the required knowledge and skills of install, operate and troubleshoot enterprise routers.

Assessment Description – Review the instructions and diagram below and configure enterprise router with required configuration.

This is a practical task. Your assessor will observe your ability to undertake following tasks in a simulated environment. Ask your trainer for further guidance on your assessment task, submission procedure and timeline.

Instructions – Your assessor will also ensure that you have access to each of the following for your assessment:

  • A site where network installation may be conducted
  • Enterprise routers and operating systems
  • Hardware and software
  • The organisational guidelines (will be provided by trainer)
  • Computers
  • Diagram
  • IP addressing (will be provided by Trainer)

Diagram:

During your assessment, based on the given network design diagram, you will need to:

  • Plan and prepare for the installation of a medium enterprise router.
  • Design a classless internet protocol (IP) addressing scheme, to suit requirements.
  • Install, configure and test the network elements, to ensure interoperability within the network.
  • Apply network topologies, routing and security protocols.
  • Apply solutions and troubleshoot any defined network problems.

Based on the above and additional information that may be provided by your assessor, complete the following tasks:

1. List and briefly describe legislation, work health and safety (WHS), codes, regulations and standards you need to consider for undertaking your required practical task.

2. Arrange access to the site as per organisation procedure.

3. Review existing network design documentation provided by your assessor. Make changes if documents is not current and/or complete.

4. Select and document network elements that are needed to be installed.

5. Send email to contact vendors and service suppliers to obtain the specifications and determine the availability of the identified components. Also, give a follow-up call to your vendor/ supplier (your assessor) to confirm your inquiry. Write summary of discussion.

6. Develop plans for the installation of components including tasks priority and contingency arrangements to minimise disruption to the client.

7. Discuss with your manager (your assessor) and obtain approval for the plans including security and timing. Provide evidence of your approval.

8. Determine the basic routing requirements. Discuss it with your assessor and write summary.

9. Determine the router operating parameters. Discuss it with your assessor and write summary.

10. List and describe the appropriate media, cables, ports, and connectors to connect routers to other network devices and hosts.

11. Access and use the router to set basic parameters.

12. Upgrade the firmware on a router.

13. Save and backup the router configuration files.

14. Implement basic router security.

15. Configure the static and default routes.

16. Determine, calculate and apply the appropriate classless addressing scheme in the given network design diagram.

a) Describe how you have used variable length subnet masking (VLSM).

b) Describe summarization to satisfy addressing requirements in a local area network (LAN) or a wide area network (WAN) environment.

17. Configure and verify, the classless routing protocols.

18. Troubleshoot the device configuration and network connectivity associated with IP addressing and host configurations using basic utilities.

19. Describe the basic troubleshooting principles used to verify the network’s operation.

20. Write a reflection journal outlining what you have learnt while doing all the above activities.
