Only students over 11 years old will feature is the formal operational stage. These students can understand abstract concepts using symbols. They should thing of various variables to establish a supposition based on former knowledge. People in all stages of cognitive development (including the preoperational and concrete operational stage) advance intellectually. But after reaching the formal operational phase, they major on building knowledge. This is different in the other two stages whereby students change how they understand or acquire knowledge.

In this case, the instructor allows them to give their respective answers. New concepts are then presented. More so, the instructor encourages the children to question the him or her on any new concept introduced.

The imagination and memory of toddlers develop at the preoperational stage. This stage includes children ranging from 2-7 years. These students are egocentric and have challenges thinking beyond their perspectives. Any student above the age of two years should be able to match meaning to things with language. This stage involves the thought where a student uses an object or word to depict something different from it.

Learning objective: Students will be able to demonstrate concrete, logical reasoning.

Students will be presented with timelines, science experiments, three-dimensional models, as well as other ways of maneuvering abstract conceptions. The instructor will encourage analytical thinking through riddles and brain teasers. Also, the students will handle open-headed questions. The questions will help in reviewing the logical and concrete reasoning capacity of the student.

Sixth-graders represent the concrete operational stage. In this phase, children above the age of 7 years tend to be less egocentric. They exhibit more methodical and logical manipulation of symbols. Students in the preoperational stage cannot manipulate things in their mind. However, students in the concrete operational and formal operational stage can answer questions without interacting with things in a real-life situation.
