Project Management, Philosophies &Tools is assessed by individual in-course work worth 100%. You are required to submit the work appropriate to the assessment requirements outlined below to the submission link in the Assessments folder on Blackboard Ultra by the due date provided on the cover of this document. The expected overall word count for your assessment is between 3,000 to 3,500 words. This does not include the table of contents and reference list. The work will be supported by graphical representation of concepts and tools.
You can find the key learning outcomes of the module at the end of this document.
ICA Requirements
Project Management Scenario
This part of the in-course assessment is intended to address Learning Outcomes 1, 2. For this part of the assessment, you are required to critically scope and author a project management case scenario which should contain sufficient appropriate detail for analysis and determination of a project management strategy, plan and toolset. This scenario could be fictitious or based on a real business need. Start with describing the business case and value(s) of the project, then add both qualitative and quantitative (e.g. staff number) details to explain the scenario in more depth. The data might be used in the formulation of your plan or toolset.
Project Managment Strategy and Plan
This part of the in-course assessment is intended to address Learning Outcomes1 1, 2, 5, 6, 7. In this part of the assessment you will review, develop and defend a case for adopting a specific project management life cycle (PMLC) and develop a suitable project management plan. The aim is to demonstrate knowledge of alternative philosophies and project planning artefacts, critically evaluating which broad methodological approach (and toolset) would fit your described project scenario. It is therefore expected that you will analyse your scenario, compare and contrast project management approaches, then select the most appropriate ones for your scenario and justify your choices. It is expected that you will use the Agile suitability matrix to help inform your decisions and that you will contextualise each project management knowledge areas.
Toolset
This part of the in-course assessment is intended to address Learning Outcomes.
In this part of the submission you are required to employ a suitable toolset portfolio, demonstrating how the tools advocated would / could be applied to the given project management scenario. It is anticipated that you will clearly link each tool to the appropriate PMBok knowledge areas. You may use existing live case data, plausible invented data, or an exemplar, illustrative presentation of critical tools in your toolset.
ICA Deliverables
The work you will submit must contain the three ICA part:
*your project management scenario
*your project management strategy and plan
*your selected toolset.
Your deliverables must effectively describe the chosen project management scenario, select and justify a suitable Project Management Life Cycle (PMLC), construct an exemplary project plan and provide evidence of how your toolset will be applied within your project management strategy.
ICA Logistics
You will have the opportunity to progress your ICA work and receive formative feedback during study sessions as scheduled.
Progress reviews with your tutor will be facilitated during timetabled sessions to monitor and guide your assessment responses. Such reviews will provide formative feedback on your progress and assistance with any difficulties.
Academic Misconduct
Finally, Teesside University takes the issue of plagiarism very seriously. You should submit your work to the Turnitin system via Blackboard to check that you have not breached any academic misconduct or plagiarism rules.
Outline Marking Criteria
Each element of the ICA will be marked out of 100% and then weighted as stipulated at the beginning of the document.
