Learning Outcomes:

The task to be completed is detailed on the next page. This CA will assess student attainment of the following minimum intended learning outcomes: 1. Demonstrate a developed and advanced critical appraisal of the theory and concepts of corporate and business level strategies and their inter-functional co-ordination (PLO: 1, 2, 3 & 7); 2. Apply diagnostic and analytical tools utilised in strategy formulation (PLO: 1, 2 & 3); 5. Evaluate various strategies to specific industry and organisational situations and recommend courses of action (PLO: 3 & 5). 8. Evaluate, comment and make recommendations on the issues in relation to managing the internal organisation to promote better strategy execution, including an analysis of key issues such as corporate culture and leadership (PLO: 5).

The grading system in CCT is the QQI percentage grading system and is in common use in higher education institutions in Ireland. The pass mark and thresholds for different grade bands may be different from what you have experience of in the higher education system in other countries. CCT grades must be considered in the context of the grading system in Irish higher education and not assumed to represent the same standard the percentage grade reflects when awarded in an international context.

Assessment Task

Students are advised to review and adhere to the submission requirements documented after the assessment task. You are required to: Choose a company you like. Once you have chosen a company, you will write a report based on the following: 1. You will discuss and use a SWOT analysis: a) Discuss the nature of a SWOT analysis. b) Analyse your chosen company using the SWOT tool (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats), prioritising your lists in the order you feel is most important and giving a short justification/reasoning for each. 2. Critically evaluate and justify what makes the company different to 2 of their main competitors. Consider ideas we have covered in class, such as value proposition, and generic strategies, to analyse your company. 3. Using your analysis from parts 1 & 2, recommend 2 strategies, or approaches that the company may take.

Justify your answer.Conclusions Evidence and use of Research – reference source quality, citation, paraphrasing and reference list Professionalism of work – Well-presented and follows structure outlined in the brief – e.g. font size, formatting, spacing, consistency in formatting, word count, good structure and flow.
