atleast 3 sources need to be included with a works cited page, as well as imbedding quotes in the text.
For this project, you will be synthesizing various types of work, such as researching and exploring an issue that affects the designated audience; reading, analyzing, evaluating, and responding to primary and secondary source information; drawing conclusions; and, of course, writing.
Your overall tasks are to:
Identify something you have witnessed, experienced, or about which you are concerned that affects you and other people living in the Bay Area.
Identify some of the governmental and non-governmental resources, services, or actions that are currently in place to address the problem/issue.
Determine what should be done to address the problem/issue and how Bay Area people can get involved and motivated to do so.
Support your discussion and argument by using at least FOUR credible, reliable, and relevant secondary sources and TWO sources that provide information about governmental, non-governmental organizations, non-profit organizations, or individual efforts that address the topic you’ve selected.
Audience:
People who live in the Bay Area. Consider what tone, vocabulary, examples, and structure are most appropriate for this audience and for this assignment. Persuade us to believe your thesis by providing solid examples and textual evidence. Additionally, with your permission, I would like to use these assignments as examples for future students and to demonstrate your writing and critical thinking skills.
Other general requirements:
This paper must be 2500 words minimum – 3000 words maximum of which 500 words will be your annotated bibliography. The sections of your essay must consist of the following:
An introduction
500 words maximum to define the problem/issue
500 words maximum to note governmental and non-governmental resources, services, actions currently addressing the problem/issue
750 words minimum to discuss what should be done to address the problem/issue and how Bay Area people can get involved and be motivated to do so
A conclusion
Both the rough draft and final draft MUST be typed.
Use 10-12 point of an easy to read font.
Follow all MLA rules (e.g. proper alignment, spacing, margins, citations, annotated bibliography, heading etc.).
ALL DEADLINES ARE ON YOUR ASSIGNMENT SCHEDULE.
In order for your rough draft to be eligible for full credit, you must:
Turn in your draft on time (or use your late option if you have not used it for a previous rough draft)
Address the prompt in a responsible manner by using the required texts, considering your audience, and demonstrating thought about the issues at hand
Produce a draft that meets the minimum word count of 2000 words (2500 is your maximum word count).
Submit your draft to Canvas’s turnitin.com dropbox by the deadline. A draft that is not submitted to Canvas will not receive credit and will not be reviewed.
Additional recommendations for rough drafts:
Provide at least a basic proofreading/spellchecking of your draft. The more errors you catch on your own, the fewer we need to review and the more we can focus on helping you to fine tune your draft.
Make an effort to follow MLA guidelines for formatting (double-spaced using 10-12 point font, 1″ margins) and source citation (in-text and annotated bibliography) in your rough draft so we may help you with any problems or errors you may have.
In order for your final draft to be eligible to receive at least a passing grade (C), you must:
Turn in your final draft by the established deadline (or use your late option if you have not used it for a previous final draft).
Address the prompt in a responsible and relevant manner by considering your audience, demonstrating thought about the issues at hand, and including use of at least FOUR credible and reliable secondary sources and TWO sources that provide information about governmental, non-governmental organizations, non-profit organizations, or individual efforts that address the topic you’ve selected.
Meet the word count guideline (2000 words minimum-2500 words maximum)
Follow the format noted in the formal outline PDF in terms of the designated sections and the length of each section.
Produce a final draft of an annotated bibliography that meets the minimum word count of 500 words.
Format your essay using MLA guidelines (double-spaced using 10-12 point font, 1″ margins, appropriate heading, header, title)
Correctly cite sources within the essay using current MLA guidelines.
Demonstrate that you have proofread and spell-checked your final draft (an occasional minor error is OK, multiple careless errors are NOT OK!).
Turn in your essay to Canvas’s turnitin.com dropbox by the deadline. Remember: A final draft that is not submitted to Canvas will get a zero score and no comments.
