Why was it alleged that the War on Drugs by Nixon was a means to wage war against Blacks and activists?
Do you think that this allegation is valid? Why or why not?
Would
it then mean that if the Vietnam War had not existed, or if Nixon did
not have biases against Blacks and activists, then Nixon’s “War on
Drugs” would not have merit?
CLASSMATE’S POST: Shirley Jordon
Nixon
The
question is: what does politicians do in the name of domestic policy,
the answer is simple, the politician plays politics, and that is exactly
what the “Nixon campaign in 1968” was all about, as such, the
idea/illusion was to wage war on drugs when in reality the Nixon
campaign was about the war that would be waged against Black and Brown
people, most specifically to criminalize Black people and hippies
according to a newly revealed 1994 quote from Nixon domestic policy
adviser, courtesy of vox.com.
Essentially, Nixon would shape the drug narrative to justify America’s
deeply rooted racism of which is now evident of a political move to
further violate Black people’s human rights, this is saying, the Nixon
campaign was a conspiracy against young Black men, to demonize, and
criminalize individuals with no political voice or ability to fight
back.
Nixon’s carefully planned domestic policy really did not matter that
Black people would be the casualty or suffer
the consequences of such
politics. So, what happened, and why
was it alleged that the War on Drugs by Nixon was a
means to wage war
against Blacks and activists; well, Nixon and the Nixon White House had
two enemies, they were the
antiwar left and Black people; that’s right,
Nixon’s war on drugs was all about war and drugs or we can say, drugs
and
war.
Here is what was found, and these are Nixon’s words verbatim, “you
understand what I’m saying, we knew we
couldn’t make it illegal to be
either against the war or blacks, but by getting the public to associate
the hippies with
marijuana and blacks with heroin, and the
criminalizing both heavily, we could disrupt those communities”;
clearly, these words are very damaging, and incriminating of the former
president Nixon.
Honestly, I think impeachment was too good for such a horrible person
as Nixon, I also think that this allegation is valid as all the evidence
points to Nixon, it was his voice, and it was real audio, that is why I
think these are not just
allegations, this is the shocking truth that
came out in 1994, which characterizes the war on drugs as a racist,
politically motivated crusade against marginalized groups – it’s
shameful.
Given the overwhelming evidence, I am also inclined to believe that if
the Vietnam War had not existed, or if
Nixon did not have biases against
Blacks and activists, then Nixon’s War on Drugs would not have merit;
although, Nixon was a known racist, and everything is politics.
