TOPIC: Analysis of Data breach in Cambridge Analytica Scandal by collecting sentiment data from Meta and Twitter official Twitter account
You will conduct a sentiment analysis using the tool SentiStrength or any other tool you prefer. The report should compare and contrast consumer sentiment surrounding two Twitter accounts of your choosing. The analysis should take into consideration the context of who the Twitter accounts are and when the data was collected: What is the Twitter accounts’ brand? What is their purpose? What do they provide? Are there any key events that may influence consumer discussions about the brand?
The report should compare and contrast the sentiment directed to your two chosen Twitter accounts. This means you will be analysing tweets that reply, tag, mention, or retweet your chosen Twitter accounts and not the tweets made by your chosen Twitter accounts. The report is an opportunity to evaluate consumer attitudes, sentiment and discussions that are directed to and about your chosen Twitter accounts. The report should include a summary of the sentiment analysis results and provide a basic visualisation of the results for the reader in the form of a table and/or graphs. It should also reflect upon the limitations of automated sentiment analysis and the ethics of using social media data.
Create a Twitter account (if you don’t already have one); you will need a Twitter account to collect data.
Choose two Twitter accounts to compare (your choice needs to be justified so make sure they relate in some way)
Collect tweets using a free tool such as Netlytic (we will do this in class in topic 1). We want ~500 tweets per account.
Extract relevant data (the tweet text) and prepare the data for analysis by SentiStrength
Run the sentiment analysis using SentiStrength
Clean the results in Excel
Create a few basic visualisations (tables and/or graphs in excel) to present the results
Manually evaluate the results; read over SentiStrength’s emotional rationale and consider whether the results are accurate
Write an analysis and discussion, linking any contextual factors including the popularity of specific tweets, key topics that emerge from discussion, timely events, etc.
Consider limitations of automated sentiment analysis and SentiStrength
