General information: READ FIRST
For this exam, you are expected to draw on content from class lectures, discussions &
exercises, and readings about strategic planning; and for part I only, additional materials
supplied for this exam (found on the course’s Canvas site, under the Final Exam Assignment
folder). Using other external sources will not help your grade, and may hurt it.
Your writing must be in your own words, and with no use of direct quotes from sources.
Part I: Bainbridge Island Senior Center strategic planning process
Review the Bainbridge Island Senior Center Strategic Plan, 2019-24 (available in the Final
Exam Assignment folder on Canvas and at this link: http://biseniorcenter.org/wp-
content/uploads/2019/01/9-December-3-2018-BISC-Strategic-Plan.pdf). Then answer the
following questions:
1) (half page single-spaced) Regarding the “Planning Process” section (pp. 2-3): in light of
what you have learned in class discussions, lectures, and readings, in what ways did this
organization follow democratic/inclusive planning or not? Provide specific examples to
support your characterization.
2) (half page single-spaced) Offer a list of likely types of organizational stakeholders –
internal and external to the agency – given the material provided. If your sense is any of
them were not (at all, or sufficiently) included in the planning process, discuss what you
anticipate could be specific impacts of that when it comes to plan implementation.
3) (half page single-spaced) Describe an alternative planning process the agency might have
followed that would be more inclusive/democratic.
