After reading your text, the Brain Science in the Classroom article, and watching the video consider the following discussion questions and discuss your perspectives in two or more paragraphs. Questions for Discussion
· What recommendations were similar across the Brain Science article, the video, and your text? If you have already started observing share with us any of these suggested practices that you are seeing “in action” in your classroom. How does understanding the hemispheric functions of the brain help you as a teacher?
· Discuss how the recommendations for the emotional and social environment in Beaty and Pratt and the affective domain and characteristics of teachers work together in the classroom and for promoting early language. Describe one activity that shows teacher acceptance and supports language learning.
· What were the characteristics of your favorite teachers (see pp. 65-66 in Edwards: the one who influenced you the most, the one whom you knew liked and respected you, the one who most positively impacted your life, the one you would most enjoy seeing you again)? How much of these characteristics are affective in nature?
