Written Self-Assessment
The purpose of the written self-assessment is to identify your current expertise, the areas you wish to develop, and your leadership characteristics. In this written self-assessment, you will be writing about your experience, expertise, strengths, and areas for development.
Below is a list of topics and questions which you should consider when writing your self-assessment. The aim is to provide focus and structure, not constraints. While you will not be graded based on your use of theory or research in leadership, feel free to include citations if, and where appropriate, you can also use terms and concepts covered in the course…for example, if you write about your power, be specific what kind you possess.
Topics and questions to consider when developing your self-assessment
What do you consider your natural aptitudes which are valuable at work or in school? In relation to your work: What are you good at? What are your strengths? (Consider your knowledge, skills, and abilities)
What are your doubts about your knowledge and skills? Do you have any gaps between your leadership capacity and enactment? What helps explain this gap? Motivation? Social identity?
When facing problems or challenges in your work what do you do to solve the problem? Describe a problem, your actions, and assess your effectiveness. What did you do well? What would you do differently?
What is your leadership approach or style that you mostly use? Describe and explain why.
