The study by Mamurov et al. explored that physical fitness is crucial for maintaining a healthy and quality life among third-level students as physical activities help students enhance their physical, social, and cognitive health. On the other hand, Uddin et al. (2020) investigated among young adults in Bangladesh that physical inactivity is considered to cause various health-related issues in third-level students, such as obesity, stress, and more.
There have been many studies conducted on sedentary lifestyles and physical inactivity among third-level students, however, a study focusing on the factors preventing female students’ participation in physical activities in the Irish context has not been identified.
With the increasing exposure of college students to several health-related issues and behaviors, the implication of physical fitness in activity is being widely promoted among people especially students as it helps in preventing concerning health problems such as cardiovascular diseases, obesity, and type 2 diabetes as investigated by Sadeghipour et al. (2021) in Iranian students.
According to several studies, it has been observed that the participation of college students in physical activity has decreased which has contributed to an increase in the rate of obesity in students but a specific study on Irish female students has not been done. Several factors act as barriers to student participation in physical activity and it has been experienced that the participation of female students is fewer than male college students, according to a study conducted on Saudi Arabian students by Al-Hazzaa (2018).
This research aims at identifying the factors that hinder the participation of female students in physical activities at Irish colleges students. An extensive literature review of the topic and an analysis of the factors that hinder female participation with a help of a semi-structured interview would be done so Nolanthat a logical conclusion can be drawn.
