GESS1004: Emerging Relations |
The association of Singapore and India goes back to their shared histories of colonial times and connectivities have carried on ever since. However, their bilateral relations went through different phases of ups and downs before assuming its present trajectory. This module will explore and examine the shifting paradigms of political, social, economic, and cultural interactions in the bilateral relations of India and Singapore in the larger geopolitical context of the South–Southeast Asia scenario in conjunction with the changing image of Asia in the twenty-first century.
The module will look at how both Singapore and India are cooperating in areas of trade and commerce, strategic and security issues, mobilization of human resources and capital, and playing an increasingly important role in ASEAN and in the Asia-Pacific region. It will also examine the specific sectors and collaborations in areas like telecommunications, information technology (IT), infrastructure development, tourism, and the development of the knowledge economy.
