Literature Review Outline Assignment Instructions
Overview
An outline is a critical component of your literature review. This is an essential step that should not be skipped. The purpose of this assignment is to help you organize the theoretical framework and narrative sections of your literature review in a logical manner.
Instructions
For this assignment, you will create a detailed outline that will serve as a structure and guide for your Literature Review. The outline will follow the basic structure of the textbook example and the provided Literature Review Outline Example.
Your outline must include the following Level 1 headings: Overview, Narrative Review, Theoretical Framework, and Summary. Under the Narrative Review and Theoretical Framework headings, provide Level 2 and Level 3 headings of how your literature review will be structured. See the Selecting a Theory section below for more information about choosing a theory for your theoretical framework. You do not need to provide a written Overview or Summary for this assignment.
Include relevant citations of at least 12 empirical, scholarly sources published within the last five years. Be sure to select various respected sources to include in your literature review. All citations and references must be formatted according to current APA standards.
The entire assignment, including the required title and references pages, must be at least four pages. Current APA formatting is required throughout the assignment.
You must include Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3 APA headings within the narrative review section. Your outline must include relevant citations, follow current APA format, and consist of at least 12 empirical, scholarly sources published within the last five years. Be sure to select various respected sources to include in your Literature Review.

Selecting a Theory
Research is typically explained or supported by a theoretical framework. In the theoretical framework section of your Applied Research Report (and this Literature Review Outline Assignment), you will identify a key theory that supports your study.
To select a theory for your theoretical framework, research the prevalent theories for educational research to find one that supports your proposed study. Examples of well-established theories include Maslow’s (1954) hierarchy of needs, Vygotsky’s (1969) social constructivism, Knowles’ (1980) adult learning theory, and Keller’s (2008) theory of motivation, volition, and performance. Please refer to Chapter 7 of the textbook for a list of prevalent theories.
