Part 1
Relates to the critical reading exercise in which you read four papers from the scientific literature that have used technology to study, monitor or analyse the dispersal, home range, movement ecology and/or behaviour of an animal species.
Aims and Study Systems
Critical reading task:
Find four studies that were published in international scientific journals in the past 10 years. Choose two that used radio telemetry and two that used GPS transmitters to study, monitor or analyse the dispersal, home range, movement ecology and/or behaviour of an animal species. Your papers can come from any journals, but if you`re not sure where to start, a list of good journals is provided below.
Referring to the four papers chosen for your Critical Reading, summarise details about the Aims of the studies including, where necessary, details of the species and locations. Include in-text citations in this section; you willenter the full reference list at Q3.
Consider the following questions when formulating your response:
- What species did they focus on and in what geographical regions?
- What were the general aims of the studies?
- Were the aims similar across your studies, or did they vary?
- What knowledge gaps were they looking to address?
- Were they investigating behaviour, home ranges, dispersal, movement patterns or something else?
