Goal Development

Goal Development

In this course, my goal is to improve my communication skills during meetings and presentations. To achieve this goal, I have outlined three objectives that I use to guide the progress. First, I want to increase my confidence while speaking up in meetings by participating in about four discussions in a week. This will involve asking questions, giving my ideas, and engaging in dialogues with my group colleagues.

Secondly, I also aim to improve my presentation skills by ensuring that I deliver one practice presentation every month to my colleagues, who I know will give me constructive feedback on my presentation. I ensure that I will use the same people in the presentation as they can monitor my progress and also give feedback that I will use to know my progress and areas that need special attention. This presentation will enable me to be effective, clear and refine my delivery of information.

Lastly, I want to develop active listening skills by writing down the key points in meetings and presentations to achieve a comprehensive engagement. Listening skills are very important during any form of communication to contribute toward the discussion. This skill enables a person to give a point that is relevant to the topic and also will ensure a smooth group discussion without the diversion of communication. The act of summarizing the key point during a debate will demonstrate understanding and thus contribute meaningful ideas to the conversation. Throughout this course, I will keep track of my progress by documenting my efforts to achieve my objectives. Every week, I will reflect on my experiences and highlight both the improvements and challenges that I faced. The consistent practices and reflection will enable me to achieve my goal of becoming a more effective communicator in different sectors.
