description of artifacts

Your final Writer’s Log (yay!) will serve as an opportunity to draft some writing that you can use directly toward Project 4. We will work on it during class on Friday 12/1.

I am asking you to select the two (2) artifacts that you are selecting for your curated writing portfolio and draft your descriptions. The description of your two artifacts will need to be at least 300 words (150 words each), which means the reflective statement component will be the remaining 500 words of Project 4.

The Project 4 prompt describes artifacts as “[writing] of your own design (in-class activity, homework assignment, draft of one of the major projects, or even notes explaining a concept) that reflect your composing practices or the development of a particular writing or communicative skill that was focused on in this class.” Here’s a more thorough list of your artifact options with language specific to our class:

In-Class Activities and Homework

Reflections

Peer Review Board posts
Notes or work from review sessions
In-class notes
Major project drafts
These things do NOT count since you did not directly write them:
Class slideshows

Any course readings (Yancey, Singh-Corcoran, or Holmes)

Please address the following questions in your description of these artifacts (150 words each):

Context:

What is this artifact from in the context of the ENC1101 curriculum?  If the artifact is about Project 2, for example, how would you explain Project 2? Imagine a reader who may not be in our course.
What was the goal of the artifact?  In other words, why are you completing it? What is its relationship to other course assignments?

Justification:

Why did you select this artifact for your portfolio?

What particular course concepts did the artifact help, expand, or complicate for you? Please discuss at least two of the P4 critical terms in relation to the artifacts: rhetor, audience, purpose, context, strategies, medium, and arrangement.

What are you hoping this writing shows a reader of your portfolio?
