Learning Outcomes:
After completing the module you should be able to:
1. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the development of relevant historical, political and cultural contexts of youth justice and analyse leading theory and research relating to youth crime.
2. Demonstrate the ability to critically analyse the competing and sometimes contradictory aims and purposes of the main principles and theories that inform studies of youth justice.
3. Demonstrate the ability to systematically deploy knowledge and the ability to critically evaluate proposals for reform of youth justice.
4. Demonstrate the ability to use relevant statistical and other data relating to youth crime produce a coherent, critical and well-focused piece of writing directed at a central and relevant question pertaining to youth and crime.
5. Understand the significance of new information relating to current policy debates and confidently assess its implications for future policy choices.Your assignment should include: a title page containing your student number, the module name, the submission deadline and the exact word count of your submitted document; the appendices if relevant; and a reference list in AU Harvard system. You should address all the elements of the assignment task listed below. Please note that tutors will use the assessment criteria set out below in assessing your work.

At present, there is a national focus on the prevalence of knife crime committed by youths.
Using statistical data and academic literature, critically discuss the prevalence and response to knife crime in England and Wales.
a) Are there any clear trends in the statistical data?
b) From the evidence you have found, what are the main risk factors linked to this type of youth offending?
c) Critically evaluate the current response to knife crime.
d) What, if anything, do you think could be done to reduce these offences?
