TEAM PROJECT PLAN PART A: WRITTEN REPORT

Purpose:
This assessment task assists students to develop skills in:
• Be able to identify the objectives, scope and constraints of a project
• Understand some of the human resource management aspects of project management
• Understand the techniques of time and cost estimation in the project planning environment
• Understand how to conduct time/cost trade-offs
• Apply network methods in the scheduling of activities under varying time, cost and resource conditions
• Develop the basics of a project management information system and design reporting formats for different levels of management
• Choose appropriate methodologies for monitoring and controlling the time and cost of a project
• Assess the risks and uncertainties involved in projects, and develop project plans and techniques which address efficiency and effectiveness criteria
• Manage the human side of project management, including negotiating deadlines, motivating project members and team building
• Recognise the importance of project integration and project termination in the overall management of a successful project
Task Overview:
This assessment is comprised of two components:
• Part A: Written Report 30%; and
• Part B: Presentation
Part A: Written Report
In a team consisting of 3–4 members, choose a ‘Business Case’ and prepare a Project Plan. The Project Plan must include:
• front title sheet
• executive summary
• table of contents
• project overview/business request/introduction
• scope statement
• work breakdown structure (wbs)
• preliminary schedule including assigned resources (gantt chart)
• project network diagram
• risk management plan • summary budget
Identify key milestones and deliverables, and prepare the first status report for the project. The group will present a summary of the selected business case, project plan and status report to the class. The group activity will be marked both on content and delivery.
This assignment is worth 30% of the final grade.
Part B: Presentation
The presentation will be a verbal report delivered by each team to the class group. It provides an opportunity for each team to communicate the project findings and outcomes to other members of the student group. It is expected that each team will reflect on their learning from the project and discuss the use of relevant theory from the course material, as well as reporting on project outcomes.
The presentation should serve as a verbal summary of the written report. The presentation should last for 20 minutes (including question time).
The presentation is worth 10% of the final grade.
