NURS4009 Clinical Education for Practice , CU

Introduction

This teaching plan focuses on designing and implementing an education session that focuses on reducing falls in elderly persons who live independently in the community. Falls remain a significant concern among elderly persons, and this may result in severe injuries, a loss of independence and a decrease in the quality of life (Ang, Low, & How, 2020). This teaching plan works to empower elderly persons with the knowledge and skills needed to minimise falls in their homes.

Learning Aims and Outcomes

The main aim of the teaching session is to empower elderly persons with the knowledge and practical strategies they need to reduce the risk of falls in their homes.

Specific aims include:

Identifying common risk factors among individuals.
Participants demonstrate and describe practical home modifications that can reduce fall hazards.
Understand and articulate the importance of regular physical exercise in maintaining balance and strength and the role of maintaining balance and strength.
