“Essay 2 is a contextual analysis essay on at least one of the texts we have read after Essay 1. Your essay must have a thesis, but the approach you take and the context you choose to consider is up to you. You could consider one of the literary texts in relation to another and examine, for instance, their representation of a similar theme, or look at a literary text in relation to a work of visual art or a film. You might consider the historical, social, religious, philosophical, or global context of one of the texts, discussing it in relation to, for instance, one of the text you read in Global Works and Society. You could also look at the later reception of a work or its contemporary influence.
You may bring in outside sources if you wish, but you are not required to do so. If you do use outside sources, you must cite them.
The essay should be 5-6 pages long (1500 words) in a reasonable font (i.e. Times New Roman, 11 or 12pt.), with reasonable margins (i.e. 1 inch). “
