Abstract
The abstract should be ONE single paragraph
Clear statement of the problem and why it is important to address
Description of who are concerned with the problem and the context is included
Brief of research method used to study the problem, including data collection and
sampling of subjects
Main findings/results and what conclusions/implications can be drawn from them
Introduction
Brief exposition of context and/or background on your topic and why it is important is provided, using supporting literature
Description of who are concerned with the problem and the context is included
How pervasive the problem is and how it has been addressed are discussed
A problem statement is provided that addresses the issue under study and the gap in the
existing literature that you seek to fill
A statement of purpose is provided and the position you are taking is explicitly stated
The central research question(s) is (are) introduced
Definition of terms is provided (for quantitative studies)
Hypotheses (if you have one) are provided either in introduction and/or at the start of the
methodology section for quantitative studies
Describe a knowledge void or a lack of clarity about a topic that will be revealed in the
literature review of prior research.
Relevance/significance of topic: a brief explanation of theories to support the research is
provided
A brief transitional sentence or paragraph wraps up the section
Conclusion
Present the last word on the issues raised in paper
Summarize your thoughts and convey the larger significance of your study
Briefly reiterate how a gap in the literature has been addressed or new insight/clarification
Briefly reiterate possible new or expanded ways of thinking about the research problem
(All reference material (if any) must be from “peer” reviewed scholarly journals, edited books, official government documents, or reliable agency and organizational reports and documents
