Hello,
I need two responses of at least 150 words each for the below students discussions for this week. Also in the bold below are the questions the students at answering.
You will:
- Describe wireless wide area networks (WWANs) and how they are used.
- Explain how cellular telephony functions.
Student one:
The easiest way for me to describe a wireless wide area network (WWAN) is as follows, a WWAN is a net which may cover a whole country or even continent providing cell coverage. At the center of each “square†of the net, or cell as the book describes (Olenewa, 2017, pg. 360), is a transmitter and receiver. Each cell is connected to a mobile telecommunications switching office (MTSO), which is the link between cell network and wired telephone world (Olenewa, 2017, pg. 361).
Understanding how all of this works can be tough to describe, but I will give it a shot. The book did a good job drawing what a small cell phone network looks like (pg. 360). Each cell touches, even overlaps, the one next to it, which helps ensure you maintain a good connection. As you are traveling through your cell network, as your signal weakens from one tower, your signal is handed off to the next tower with the strongest signal. This process ensures the call does not drop and that you have good communications. Now, if you leave your cell network, that is where roaming comes into play. When you are roaming, you connect to a tower, which isnâ€t in your local network, and the “roaming†tower contacts your local network to ensure you have a valid account to make calls and such. I am still trying to figure out the RF side and how, with so many users, there is no interference.

Student two:
Hello classmates!
First and foremost, good luck to everyone on their term paper this week!
Wireless wide area networks (WWANs) are essentially all encompassing wireless networks that rely on cellular devices to span vast distances where normal wireless network connection may not be readily available. Satellite technology is used in order to establish a working connection where cell phone coverage may not be available. It allows users to make phone calls and access the internet as if your device was connected to a normal network. This is also very useful for individuals who may live out in remote areas where cell phone company coverage may be underwhelming. When it’s said that this technology can be used to span an entire country or more, it’s not exactly an exaggeration. These satellite connections are what make this possible.
Cellular telephony is caught me off guard because it turned out to be a lot more intricate than I anticipated. As described in our textbook, there’s two keys to understanding how cellular telephony works; cells and the “…that all of today’s digital transmitters and digital cellular phones operate at a low power level. ” (Olenewa 361). What it ends up coming down to is that within these cells, the frequency generated by the device can be reused in other cells (not adjacent ones) and it won’t interfere with other devices.
I apologize if my explanation was difficult to understand; i was trying to compartmentalize. Thanks for reading all the way through though!
