Film Analysis Purpose
Psychology is a science that involves making observations about the relationships that exist between our emotions, thoughts, behaviours. In sport and exercise psychology, we look at these relationships as they relate to experiences in sport and exercise contexts and how they impact performance within those contexts.
This film analysis will allow you to view a mainstream “sports movie” through the lens of sport psychology. You will use your newly acquired knowledge of sport psychology theory and application to analyze a sports film. You will aim to make sense of what you are seeing by connecting it with what you now know about sport psychology from this course, and further research.
Important point: Anytime you are referring to sport psychology findings, you will need to reference appropriate sources using APA formatting. You can use sources provided in this course (textbook) or reputable outside sources
Sport PsychologyAnalysis: Discuss one sports psychology theme used in the film.
Discuss the following:
1). Examine and explain sport psychology theme that you notice in the film. Discuss at least four different aspects or concepts related to the theme.
2). Does the film do a good job of showing what we know about these concepts from the research, or is there a mismatch between what they show and what research tells us? Explain.
3). Make suggestions regarding what is “missing” or what could be added to the film in order to better represent what you know about this topic in sport psychology. Explain your rationale for the suggestion(s).
4). Use a minimum of one in text citation that supports your analysis.
Note: Although you may introduce a broad theme like Personality in Sport, in analyzing it further, you should focus your efforts on the more specific concepts present. For example, you might bring up various theories of personality, what research tells us about various personality traits like competitiveness, perfectionism, The Big Five, and so on. Be thorough and detailed in your discussion of the content as it relates to the film.
