Task
A box section bridge project calls for a contractor to perform the following:
Project Parameters:
1. The bridge consists of two earth approaches. It is split into 6 unequal spans. the span lengths are as follows:
2. The bridge abutment wall has a height of 6 m above the ground level (at the starting approach), and a wall thickness of 1 m. The abutment rests on 14 piles with a diameter of 0.8 m each and a pile cap with a thickness of 1.2 m (1.5 x 0.8 m). Each pile has a total length of 15 m.
3. Each pier consists of 2 circular columns with a diameter of 1.2 m. Each pier rests on 6 piles with a diameter of 1 m each and a pile cap with a thickness of 1.5 m (1.5 x 1 m). Each pile has a total length of 18 m. The pier has a pier cap of 1.8 m (1.5 x 1.2 m) depth.
4. The bridge rises with a constant slope of 1.5% from its starting point while the ground profile goes down by 12% from the starting abutment for 120 m then it goes up by 9%.
5. The super-structure consists of post-tensioned box sections with the following dimensions:
6. The parapet is cast in situ reinforced concrete while the sidewalk is cast in situ plain concrete.
7. Asphalt binder and wearing course including road marking and signage will be installed as finishing for the roadways.
8. Any supporting works for the project execution need to be included.
Limitations:
The project is required to be executed using the incremental launching method.
Submission Guidelines:
The submission of a report to be submitted in the office of your TA. You are also required to send your finalized presentation slides by mail. Both the presentation and report should be submitted on the time of the deadline, late submission deductions will apply to the whole group.
Report Requirements:
- Sketches of the site layout and structural details explained in the project scope.
- WBS on Primavera P6.
- Activity List with IDs, durations and relationships on Primavera P6.
- A Method statement for the execution of each activity.
- BOQ of all the work items within the scope of work (according to the CSI Master format).
- A cover letter to the owner summarizing the project proposed milestone dates and cost.
- An appendix including all sub-calculations, rough sketches, or drafts throughout your work (for reference).
Presentation General Instructions:
1. Each group will have 10 minutes for presentation to accommodate enough time for questions.
2. All members of the group shall participate in the presentation.
3. Semi-formal dressing is mandatory.
4. The final presentation and colloquium will be 50% of the project grade.
