Case Study: Struggling Readers Assignment Instructions
Overview
Research has shown that there are struggling readers at every level of education. Because a student’s education depends on comprehension of literature, it is imperative for struggling readers to receive the support needed to become proficient readers. Using research-based interventions, struggling readers are able to gain fluency in reading which leads to the comprehension of text. Both skills are necessary to be successful.
Instructions
For this assignment, you will interact with a struggling reader case study upon which you will determine the research-based strategies needed for the student to achieve reading success. In the IRIS Center Fluency and Word Identification: Grades 3-5 and the IRIS Center Early Reading case study units provided with this assignment, you will find several student cases. You are to choose one C-level student case study in either resource to use for the completion of this assignment.
Compose a written narrative:
- Begin with a brief description of the student’s grade level, abilities, and challenge area(s).
- In narrative form, address each of the questions or prompts in the “Assignment” portion of your selected case study. Use an appropriate header in your paper for each question or prompt addressed.
- Any goals you develop should be created using the A, B, C, D format for goal writing.
- In each of the IRIS Case Study Units, you are given “STAR Sheets”. These sheets are your sources for completing this assignment. You must also use at least two other scholarly sources to support your assertions. Additional sources used are to be from within the past five years.
- Provide a rationale for your diagnostic impressions when using the criteria from the Star sheets. Make sure your recommendations are relevant to the case, are able to be implemented, and have support from the case study documents.
- Answer all of the questions and/or prompts in professional and scholarly writing. Follow the current APA style guidelines. Use in-text citations to give credit to your sources.
- Include a title page and a reference page.
- The body of your paper is to be a minimum of two pages.
