Description: A naturalistic observation is a psychological research method used to accurately observe and record behavior in the environment in which it normally occurs. To accomplish this, a researcher may use a variety of data collection techniques ranging from an in-person observation to recorded camera video footage. You will become the developmental psychologist in a participant’s natural environment. Directions: To complete this assignment, do the following: 1.) Choose one of the three major theories of human development—Piaget’s Cognitive Development, Erikson’s Social Development, or Kohlberg’s Moral Development. 2.) Go to various locations such as a mall, church, park, etc. and look for examples of each of the stages of your chosen theory. 3.) Your assignment is to choose one of the major human development theories and create a two-column presentation of the stages in that theory. 4.) This project requires you to do an observation of a child (ages 2-12) or adolescent (ages 13-17) or an adult in a natural setting. 5.) You should be as unobtrusive as possible and use a notebook to write down the activities, behaviors, and interactions that you are observing during that time. 6.) The two-column presentation will explain each stage of the theory and identify one behavioral example from a real-life situation. 7.) The two-column presentation can be created as a Google, Canva, or PowerPoint Presentation. 8.) In the first column you should list each stage of the theory as well as a two to three sentence explanation of each stage. 9.) In the second column, you should write down a behavior you observed that exemplifies the stage. 10.) Write a sentence description of the behavior as well as where the behavior was observed for each stage. 11.) Provide in-text citations from the textbook or credible website to support each slide with a list of References at the end. At the end of your two-column presentation write a 5-7 sentence summary about how the theory helped you to understand human behavior.
